This compass is suitable for use with most computerized navigation equipment including chart plotters, integrated
instrument systems, and autopilots. Athena compass provides many features not found on other compasses.
Athena utilizes a solid-state magnetic heading sensor coupled to a gimbaled sensor platform. The gimbal platform allows the compass to provide accurate heading information with as much as 45 degrees of heel and pitch. Athena can be configured to provide one of 5 levels of electronic damping.
Athena is factory configured to provide heading information at a 10 Hz output rate at 4800 BAUD. Athena can be configured to provide the heading message at a 20 Hz output rate. A 9600 BAUD rate is configurable as well.
An automatic calibration routine is available for the first 2 minutes after every power-up. Athena remembers your last calibration settings when powered down and thus does not force you to calibrate every power-up. However you may utilize the automatic calibration routine whenever required to adjust for changing magnetic conditions when you travel long distances. Athena can be configured to offset its heading information up to 180 degrees port or starboard.
This gives maximum flexibility when choosing a suitable installation location.
