This past weekend was one to remember. BBR had 4 drivers entered in three classes with Phil Arscott (2009 US National Champion) leading the team.
2010 BBR Karting US National Team
Phil Arscott
Stepanova Nakeel
Parker McKean
Bruce McKean
Rotax Senior:
Right from practice session 1 Phil Arscott was on top of the leader board. Phil’s speed and experience lead him to the most dominating performance I have ever seen. In qualifying Phil once again showed his talent as to why he was the 09 Champion and took pole position. Stepanova the newest member to the BBR Team with Tony Kart and BBR Rotax, struggled throughout the year decided last minute he needed a change. Stepanova qualified just out of the top 10.
In the heat races Phil won every single heat race with a gaps anywhere from 2-4 seconds over 2nd place. Phil was unstoppable. Stepanova moved through the field and had three solid top 10 finished to start 8th in the pre final.
Pre Final:
At the start of the race Phil was punted off in turn 1 which caused the front row to be eliminated. Phil would Finish 21st in the pre final. Meanwhile Stepanova again had an amazing performance and finished 4th, putting him in perfect position for the final.
Final:
It was all Stepanova in the final as we made the right call on setup with tires and right from the green flag he showed his speed as everyone got bound up. Stepanova made smart choices and slowly passed one after the other to take the lead from Daniel Formal half way through the race. As the laps wound down he pulled a gap and never looked back...taking his first National Championship and BBR Karting 2nd in a row. NATIONAL CHAMPIONS!!!!!!!!
Behind Stepanova was Phil Arscott who had the most impressive drive. Starting from 21st he moved through the field in no time. With 19 laps Phil cut through the field and had his sights on a podium finish. With one lap to go Phil moved into 3rd position and was going to make a move for 2nd on Daniel Formal. From no where Fabio Orsolon (Tony Kart) made contact with Phil in one of the last turns. As Phil stood there his hopes of making it to La Conca for the Grand Finals vanished.
We are so happy for Stepanova. We made all the right calls and it took some time for Stepanova to learn the new chassis but in the end he delivered an amazing performance. It was a great day for him and BBR!!!
Rotax Junior:
Parker McKean would be in the battle of his life, with 54 juniors in the most competitive field in the last 5 years. Parker showed great speed in qualifying finishing 9th place. We were so excited being his first Nationals and out qualifying top drivers including Andre Palmer who later went on to win.
In the heat races though Parker had bad luck. With one DNF, a turn 1 crash and finsihing 21st and a 6th place finish. His three heat races would cost him dearly in the tight field. Even though Parker had bad luck he had amazing speed and posted either the fastest lap or 2nd fastet lap every heat.
Parker would start on pole for the LCQ. In the 15 lap pre final he never looked back taking the win.
In the pre final Parker would start 33rd out of the 40 car field. He had an awesome drive in the 15 lap race finishing 12th. His speed, smart choices put him in great position for the final and to potentially get a top 10 finish. It was a great race to watch has he working with one of his friends Nick De Silva (Kosmic) as they cut through the field.
After a strong performance in the pre final his luck would run out as in the final within the first lap Parker was hit from behind and caused damage to the rear bumper. A very frustrating ending to what have potentially been a top 10 finish. This was Parker’s first time in Rotax Junior so he will have many more chances to take the top spot....To be continued....
